Applications – Where the A10VG18 Excels

Example 1: Compact Track Loaders

A 50 hp tracked loader requires independent forward/reverse motion for each track. Two A10VG18 pumps (one per track) provide infinitely variable speed and precise steering via zero-displacement neutral. The closed circuit eliminates the heat and lag of open center directional valves.

Example 2: Small Agricultural Spreaders

Hydraulic-driven spreader disks need constant torque at varying speeds. Using an A10VG18 with an electric proportional control allows the cab computer to adjust spread rate instantly without mechanical linkages.

Example 3: Self-Propelled Aerial Work Platforms (Boom Lifts)

The pump’s compact size fits inside a chassis rail. The closed circuit gives smooth ramp-up and braking, reducing shock to the operator. Integrated flushing valves help cool the loop during long descents.

Maintenance & Common Failure Points

Even robust pumps require care. Here’s what to watch on the A10VG18:

1.Charge Pressure Drop (The 1 Warning)

If charge pressure falls below 8 bar (at operating temperature), the main pump cavitates. Causes: clogged charge filter (10–25 micron is typical), worn charge pump, or oil degradation.

2.Case Drain Flow Monitoring

The A10VG18 has a case drain line (usually ½” or ¾”). Measure flow and temperature. High case drain flow (>8 L/min at 250 bar) indicates internal wear in the piston/slipper interface.

3.Shaft Seal Leakage

The input shaft seal can fail if the case drain is restricted (back pressure >2 bar absolute). Always pipe case drain separately with no sharp elbows.

4.Control Linkage Stiction

On HD controls, a sticking spool causes delayed or no response. Use clean, water-free hydraulic oil (ISO VG 32–46, with anti-wear additives).
